Canon ImageCLASS MF5750 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon ImageCLASS MF5750 printer 26 October, 2011

Our Verdict:

Canon ImageCLASS MF5750 toner cartridges

Multifunction laser printers are quite popular these days, and Canon manufacturers some of the most popular all-in-one units on the market. The Canon ImageCLASS MF5750 is a fine example of this. It does a spectacular job of meeting the copy, fax, scan and print needs of the small office. But it is also stylish enough, compact enough and priced low enough to be a reasonable option for the home office. It boasts fine print quality, excellent software and literature, and superb technical support. It produces 21 pages per minute, and it can output faxes straight to the PC rather than waste paper and Canon MF5750 toner.

Design

Simply put, the Canon MF5750 is eye-catching. And while that may not be a big selling point for all, it does stand out at a price point best known for its drab, boxy, infrequently updated style. The sleek MF5750 blends well with the modern office, but Canon has not allowed its aesthetic design to interfere with the practical design. It uses a small base, wide top build that is far more stable than it looks. And this design choice makes some routine tasks, such as loading the paper tray, rather simple. As you would expect, the LCD display is relatively basic, but the control panel and keyboard are impressive.

Advantages

The nature of the beast is that most all-in-one printers are not as easy to use and to configure as we would like them to be. The Canon MF5750 is truly different in that regard. The machine is intuitive, and a great deal of work has gone into the software and the instruction manuals. Nearly every feature, from the most basic to the most sophisticated, has a software-based walkthrough that simplifies the entire process. And if you do have difficulties, Canon includes world-class technical support free that will walk you through set up and use.

Disadvantages

The biggest disadvantage of the Canon ImageCLASS MF5750 is that it has no Mac OS X or Linux support. Of course, it will work with a Mac or Linux computer, but much of what makes this printer so accessible is gone in those environments. Another issue is that it scans and copies slowly. That may be all right for the single-person home office, but it will certainly be an issue in most small offices. In addition, offer no expansion options, which is an important business consideration.
