Canon i-SENSYS MF249dw Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon i-SENSYS MF249dw printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Canon MF249dw is a compact all-in-one printer that offers solid performance and is ideal as either a personal printer or a printer for the home office or micro office. Its compact size means that it is easy to find space for it in even the smallest of offices. Despite its size, it boasts plenty of useful features including an automatic document feeder that will make light work of scanning two-sided documents. The printer also has a number of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi Direct.

Design

The Canon i-Sensys MF249dw printer measures just 14.2 by 15.4 by 14.9 inches and weighs around 30 pounds including the cartridge. This makes the printer easy to move around and it will share a desk with other equipment. On top of the printer are a flatbed and a 50-page duplexing ADF that is used for copying, scanning and faxing both sides of multi-page documents. Below the flatbed is the control panel with function buttons including Start, Home, Stop, Energy Saver and Back. It also has an alphanumeric keypad. The printer has one main paper tray that will take 250 sheets and a one sheet multi-purpose feeder. By default the printer prints on both sides of the page.

Advantages

The printer has an automatic document feeder, which is ideal for businesses that have to copy or scan a lot of documents. The printer speed is good and the prints produced are of a good quality. The compact size of the printer makes it easy to fit into even small offices and it is an improvement on earlier Canon printers such as the MF227dw because it is built for higher volume use.

Disadvantages

The Canon i-Sensys MF227dw has no options for additional paper trays. Generally, the graphics are good, but you may notice some banding in some illustrations. However, the print quality is certainly good enough for PowerPoint presentations. In general, users have been pleased with the printing performance, but some have criticised the scanning speed.
