Our Verdict:
The Dell 5110cn is a value-priced colour laser printer that is great for the home or for small businesses. The price is fairly inexpensive, especially for a laser printer, although in the rare event that a part needs to be replaced, the cost of doing so can be quite high. While the printer does not use Dell 5110cn toner up rapidly for text, it can require several replacements a month if printing or copying high volumes of photographs or images. In terms of image-light documents or text, however, a cartridge of Dell 5110cn toner can last for up to 18,000 copies. The speed for copying and printing is extremely quick, and is almost as fast as a comparable inkjet printer, making it an excellent choice for businesses that have to print large amounts of documents. However, when doing this, it is important to allow the printer to cool down every 100 pages or so, since otherwise, the colour ink, particularly the yellow and magenta, tends to bleed across pages.
Design
The appearance of the Dell 5110cn is large and bulky, not to mention heavy. However, the size does lend it a professional gravity not present in all small business printers, and the paper tray is of ample size to handle massive document volumes, but the sheer appearance may turn off some home users from displaying it prominently. While the design does include a couple of single-button operation, much of the interface is complex and multi-function, meaning that one may want to keep the printer manual handy in order to wade through the LCD screen prompts. Also, while the printer does have a display feature to notify the user of the amount of remaining Dell 5110cn toner, the numbers given are only rough estimates, and are occasionally inaccurate.
Advantages
