Our Verdict:  

HP Colour LaserJet 3600 toner cartridges 

The HP Colour LaserJet 3600 printer is a mid-range printer that is suitable for a niche somewhere between a top end home office and a small graphical business. While the price tag may generally look a bit pricier than comparable models, HP is attempting to even out the playing field with quicker colour prints, a cheaper price per page, and a respectable print speed. While this machine does not have the quality to compete in a heavy-traffic office, the features may need to be inspected for anyone who needs a solid printer for colour graphics.

Design

This machine sits on the heavy-duty end of the scale in terms of size and weight and is going to need a permanent home so as to not be moved around often. The front wall opens to reveal the paper tray adjustments, jam maintenance, and access to the four HP 3600 toner cartridges. The base model comes with a 250 sheet tray, but there is an upgraded option that can attach a 500 sheet tray as well as a 100 sheet auxiliary feed. An LCD display and simple navigation buttons are used for all error messages and settings. There is 64 MB of internal memory which is used for network print jobs and this memory cannot be expanded.

Advantages

This is one of the few printers that actually prints colour at a slightly faster rate than black text. Just over 13 pages can be printed in colour, making it one of the quicker printers on the market for this purpose. While the actual printer may be slightly more expensive, judicious use of HP 3600 toner cartridges make it cheaper per page, which may equal out over prolonged use. The detachable front wall makes maintenance as easy as nearly any other printer available.

Disadvantages

The major disadvantage lies heavily in the printing of large volumes of text. The quality of black text is not as great as comparable models. The speed also may sometimes dip under 13 pages per minute while other printers in this range can push upwards of 18 pages per minute. There are also very few options when it comes to specialty prints on envelopes or any other materials that are not standard paper sizes.
