The HP LaserJet 4 Plus printer is part of the series of monochrome laser devices that date back to the early 1990s. This particular unit is the upgraded and better version of its predecessors, which are quite well-known for their resilient construction and durable print engine. The HP LaserJet 4 Plus mono laser printer is deemed affordable and easy to use, too, but lacks network-friendly features and it is quite outdated for today's standards.

Design

This bulky and industrial-looking printer features an understated enclosure with a straight paper path that prevents curling and frequent paper jam. Despite its large and boxy frame, the HP 4 Plus LaserJet is surprisingly compact, measuring 16.4 inches wide, 11.7 inches tall, and 15.9 inches deep. The main interfaces are serial and parallel ports, while the standard RAM installed is 2MB. The HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer toners are easy to replace and these black cartridges have the codes HP 98A (standard capacity) and HP 98X (high capacity).

Advantages

Text documents are printed sharply and clearly at 600x600dpi and the installed memory can be upgraded to 66MB for more speed. Two media feeders are available, including a 250-sheet autoload cassette and a 100-sheet cassette. The all-in-one toner cartridge of the HP LaserJet 4 Plus laser printer is integrated with a drum, so the printer gets a new imaging system every time toner needs to be replaced. Print speeds from the Laserjet 4 Plus go up to 12ppm.

Disadvantages

This is a heavy and boxy device that weighs 16.78Kg. Media handling for the HP LaserJet 4 Plus is limited to standard types of plain paper, labels, envelopes, and transparencies for business and office correspondence. The printer is aimed at workgroups but doesn't have networking capabilities. The HP 4 Plus printer also lacks expansion bays and the duplexer is optional.
