HP LaserJet 8100 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP LaserJet 8100 printer 26 November 2012

Our Verdict:

Built for small to medium offices, the HP LaserJet 8100 series printer is best suited for high volume printing. It offers great print quality at 1200x1200 dpi, and has many built-in features often found in higher end models. While the HP LaserJet 8100 only offers monochrome printing, it does so at quick rates, and with excellent quality. The device even has scanning and copy functions. However, the LaserJet 8100 mono laser printer is not equipped for sending or receiving fax messages.

Design

This multifunction unit is a lot more compact than previous single function mono laser printers from HP. The HP LaserJet 8100 packs a laser printer, scanner, and copier in one relatively compact device. It has an automatic document feeder and a duplexer, though it does not offer a flatbed scanner, which means users can only scan and copy from loose pages. The HP LaserJet 8100 printer has a large paper input capacity of up to 1,100 sheets, which can be expanded to 3,100.

Advantages

The HP LaserJet 8100 laser printer is a versatile device. It is capable of duplex scanning, copying, and printing, and the ADF unit can handle as many as 50 pages. The HP 8100 LaserJet offers fast print rates, up to 32 ppm and print, scan, and copy qualities are quite impressive. Graphics quality is acceptable, though a little below average by laser printer standards. The genuine HP LaserJet 8100 toner can achieve a low cost-per-print with its 20,000 page life. However, a cheaper compatible HP 8100 laser toner gives an even bigger discount when it comes to toner replacement costs.

Disadvantages

The HP 8100 laser printer is a good choice for workgroups. However, the LaserJet 8100 series printer can only produce monochrome outputs and it lacks fax sending capabilities, though the scanner can send scanned documents directly to email and other file locations.
