Our Verdict:
The Oki B2520 MFP, from Okidata Solutions, is a multifunctional monochrome laser printer with a bevy of features packed into its compact frame. The B2520 is an all-in-one small office system capable of printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. The B2520 is capable of monochrome prints and copies at speeds of up to 17 pages per minute, super G3 faxing speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps, and scanning interpolated resolution capabilities of up to 2,400 x 4,800 dpi. Connectivity options include most Windows operating systems along with a USB port and the system is backed by 32MB of memory which can be upgraded to 64MB.
Design
The featherweight Oki B2520 MFP weighs a mere 11.8 kg, perfect for any small office desktop, and measures in at a mere 44.7 cm wide by 38.6 cm deep by 41.1 cm high. A 50 page automatic document feeder sits on top of the unit with a USB thumbdrive port on the front of the machine. An LCD display screen flanked by push-buttons for easy configuration make up the printer's control panel.
Advantages
The system offers a "scan to" and "print from" feature for USB flashdrives and the port is easily accessible from the front of the machine. The unit is cheap compared to similar systems giving users an inexpensive buy-in option for an all-in-one office machine. The high capacity Oki B2520 MFP toner cartridges offer a relatively high yield at 4,000 pages per life cycle compared to the lower 2,200 page yield of the standard Oki B2520 MFP cartridge.
Disadvantages
The LCD display is not backlit making it difficult to read in low light situations such as a back office. A very low monthly duty cycle rating of 7,500 pages would be enough to scare away many users in need of an office workhorse. The B2520 is not network ready, offers some of the poorest quality grayscale scans in its class, and its per-page cost is fairly high compared to similar systems.
