The Oki FAX 2510 by Oki Printing Solutions is a dedicated fax system suited to businesses that demand regular high-performance high-quality faxing but only require light copying duties. Not only is the Oki FAX 2510 an affordable total fax solution, it is intuitive, fast, durable and cost-efficient to operate. It can transmit and receive pages at an approximate rate of one page per 2.5 seconds, and it can hold 110 pages in memory at the default memory configuration of 2 MB. It has a paper capacity up to 300 sheets and recommended duty cycle of 2,000 pages per month.

Design

When it comes to style, the Oki FAX 2510 is a blend of the old and the new. Oki uses a cube style and an off-white colour scheme, but the corners are all rounded and users will not find a sharp edge. As a cube, it is incredibly stable, and the unit is compact enough that you will not have trouble finding a spot for it. It does not even require its own dedicated space, although it is somewhat too large to take a place as a peripheral at a single-user workstation. The inconspicuous automatic feeder up top holds 50 pages, and the tray at the bottom of the unit holds 250 pages. Replacing Oki 2510 toner cartridges is relatively straight forward.

Advantages

These days it is becoming more difficult to find a machine that puts fax first, so if you are in a business environment that still uses fax heavily, the Oki 2510 is a blessing. You will not find many feeds that have the sheer amount of fax options that this unit does. Many of them have fallen out of favour and are difficult to find, so the 2510 is an excellent option for some legacy systems. Despite the focus on old, the 2510 thoroughly supports PC-fax, and it connects to nearly any Windows system easily through the plug-and-play architecture.

Disadvantages

The problem with the Oki 2150 is that most offices no longer need a dedicated fax device. And even those that do may be better off using the PC-fax capabilities of a multifunction printer. Few business environments require the obscure fax features the 2510 provides, and software solutions to those problems are available for the PC and even Mac and Linux machines. It would not be so bad if Oki had not made copying such an afterthought, but they did. This machine copies at too slow a rate for a machine at this price, and the 600 x 600 dpi is not nearly good enough.
