The Ricoh Aficio 220 is ideal for medium to large office environments that have many computers on the LAN. The digital imaging system offers monochromatic laser printed pages, and requires a small amount of floor space, typically in a centralised workgroup area. The RA 220 provides a simple and intuitive interface that allows its most sophisticated functions to be accessed by the conveniently located, large Touch Panel Display. Indeed, one need not be an expert to use the Aficio 220’s advanced capabilities because it has been designed with the average user in mind. Classified as a modular digital imaging system, the Ricoh 220 is designed for a networked office environment that requires the use of digital faxing, copying, network printing, and network document scanning. The included Drivers and Utilities software provides each networked computer with a graphical user interface that allows all the capabilities of the 220 to be accessed, adjusted, and used. There is no need to keep tract of consumables usage because the printer does it internally, and will prompt the user through the panel display to replace needed items. Moreover, the Ricoh 220 will faithfully reproduce complex images and text because it combines a printing resolution of 600 x 600 dpi with 256 levels of varying grey scale shading.

Design

Reliability and productivity have been designed into the imaging center, as it employs a short, straight paper path that reduces paper jams and produces a first-print copy in under five seconds. Moreover, the stackless duplexing system allows double-sided printing on even the largest of paper sizes. Furthermore, the 220 will accept various types of media, including adhesive labels, transparencies, translucent paper, and post cards. Duplexing is enabled for printing, faxing, and copying. This system comes standard with 20 MB of system ram that is upgradeable to 48 MB. The Ricoh 220 toner cartridge is available in a high-yield version capable of printing 19,000 text printed pages.

Advantages

The 220 is capable of storing up to 3,100 sheets of paper, and offers automatic paper source switching to provide uninterrupted printing. Part of the 220’s standard equipment is a built-in high-performance fax system that is reported to be the fastest fax unit on the market. The fax system includes a standard modem that operates at 33.6 Kpps, which ensures compatibility with other faxing units. It can transmit faxes at three seconds per page, and is capable of sending and transmitting simultaneously. The Ricoh 220 toner cartridge included with the printer is a full size cartridge capable of printing up to 11,000 text printed pages.

Disadvantages

This printer is very well rounded. There are no glaring problems that we could find.
