The Samsung SF-5100 is a compact sheet fed laser fax machine and copier designed for the small office and home office market. This fax machine is designed to handle faxing at a reasonable speed for home office and small office users, and the copy function can zoom and handle multiple copies. It has options for saving toner to run at a low cost, and replacement Samsung SF-5100 toner is inexpensive and simple to find in both genuine and compatible formats. This fax machine is no longer available new, though it can still be found in a used or refurbished format.

Design

The Samsung SF-5100 toner fax machine has a 14.4 kbps modem and can handle fax and copy at six pages per minute and features an 80 number speed dial option. This machine has a 30 page fax memory and a 20 document auto feed to make scanning for a fax or copy simple. The machine functions without an attached computer and has options to enlarge or reduce scanned items from 30% to 150% of their original size. The unit comes with a battery backup to make sure it stays running no matter what happens and the LCD display can function in seven different languages.

Advantages

The simple copy feature and auto feed make the Samsung SF-5100 a good fax machine for small office and home business use. It may not be as quick as many modern fax options, but it makes up for speed with a feature selection that is both simple and useful. Samsung SF-5100 toner cartridges are cheap enough to keep the running costs of this machine down while keeping the quality of each fax and copy received high.

Disadvantages

The Samsung SF-5100 is an older fax machine, which means the cost to feature comparison may not stand up well to a more modern unit. Current monochrome multi-function machines can offer a much higher level of functionality with very little difference in cost unless the SF-5100 is found at a true bargain basement price. While this unit can function independently of a computer or office network, many recent combination printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine units can perform most functions independently as well, making the SF-5100 less than a good deal for all but the most cost conscious consumers.
