The Toshiba DP85F is a multifunction fax machine with a reliable and fast modem and a range of features to help users save time and money. This device resembles its predecessor, the DP80F in many ways including the resolution, default paper capacity, and the print quality, but Toshiba failed to improve the print speed and memory capacity of the DP85F fax machine despite the faster modem.

Design

Measuring 17.1 inches tall and 18.7 inches wide, the Toshiba DP85F desktop fax machine and copier looks fairly compact for a standard desk, but may need more installation space because it spans 27.8 inches long. There is a 250-sheet default paper cassette with a 100-sheet output tray. The DP85F laser fax weighs 18Kg and it has 3.5MB of page memory. Black toner is required by the DP85F mono fax and a single cartridge lasts for up to 6,000 prints. The control panel includes an alphanumeric keypad, navigational and one-touch operational buttons, and a small display screen.

Advantages

Many features are available for the fax machine of the Toshiba DP-85F including confirmation reports, error correction mode, multi-memory access, and group dialling. There is a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for more convenience. The built-in memory of the Toshiba DP85F multifunction printer can store up to 311 pages. Fax transmissions are faster because of the 33.6Kbps modem. The paper capacity is upgradeable to 750 sheets with an extra 500-sheet cassette.

Disadvantages

The quality of high-resolution graphics and very detailed images might be compromised because of the 600dpi resolution. The print speed of the Toshiba DP 85F fax printer is quite slow, at only up to eight pages per minute. Important features like network scanning / printing / faxing, the telephone handset, and OCR software are optional. The operator panel of the DP85F mono laser printer can be intimidating to configure for first-time users because of the cluttered arrangement of buttons.
