Xerox WorkCentre M20 Printer Review

Expert review of the Xerox WorkCentre M20 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Xerox WorkCentre M20 is ideal for small offices and users who desire standalone print, fax, scan and copy functions with network features. While it does little to differentiate itself from a saturated all-in-one printer market, it does impress with its direct connect scanner features and online connections. The M20’s print quality and ease of use are regularly cited by users as its best features, though its speed is slow when compared to the latest generation of devices.

Design

The Xerox WorkCentre M20 measures 540 mm x 441 mm x 488 mm as standard and 540 mm x 441 mm x 619 mm with an additional paper tray. The laser monochrome printing tech outputs at 22 pages per minute at a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and 1200 x 1200 dpi interpolated. The first print arrives in less than ten seconds and the first copy within eight seconds. There is a 250-sheet output tray. Connections are rather basic but do include USB and Ethernet.

Advantages

The text quality is consistently excellent, while the graphic output is deemed good to very good, so the Xerox WorkCentre M20 should be sufficient for the majority of business tasks. The standalone scan and email function are also useful, while the 50-sheet automatic document feeder streamlines operation and makes the whole process more intuitive. Microsoft Word text files can be printed in 15 seconds.

Disadvantages

Manual network installation increases setup time, and its lacklustre speed at just 22 pages per minute may hamper work environments with heavy workgroups. Fax and copy are limited to standalone functions, so the Xerox WorkCentre M20 is not really an all-in-one. Media-rich Microsoft Word files with text and photos can take more than half a minute print. The Xerox WorkCentre M20’s document feeder is also prone to jamming when many sheets are loaded.
