    This original Canon PG-540XL high capacity black ink cartridge is compatible with any of the printer models listed on this page. The only printer from the Canon Pixma MG3500 series we list as a valid UK printer model is the Canon Pixma MG3550 printer which does accept this genuine Canon PG-540XL ink cartridge. Pixma MG3500 isn't listed as this is the name of the series rather than a specific model number. If you don't have a Canon Pixma MG3550 printer that was purchased in the UK, we wouldn't advise you to order this Canon PG-540XL ink cartridge, as it's likely that you have a non-UK printer that will require different number cartridges to the ones we supply.

  • Are the Canon PG540 and the PG540 XL cartridges the same size? Or, does the XL mean that PG540XL has a different size or just more ink inside?

    Canon PG540XL cartridge size

    The Canon PG-540XL cartridge contains more ink than the Canon PG-540 cartridge. PG-540XL ink cartridges can print up to 600 pages whereas PG-540 ink cartridges can only print up to 180 pages because they contain less ink. The physical size of the cartridges is not important as long as they are both listed as compatible with your printer.

    Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, Canon don't provide ink volume measurements for these cartridges. Instead, they give an expected page yield of 180 pages for the Canon PG-540 black ink cartridge and 600 pages for the Canon PG-540XL high capacity black ink cartridge. These yields are based on 5% coverage of an A4 sheet of paper.
