HP Deskjet 648c Printer Review
Expert review of the HP Deskjet 648c printer
As an entry-level personal inkjet colour printer, the HP Deskjet-648c ticks all the boxes. With decent speed and build quality, the printer is also affordable and a good choice for everyday photo printing. It is easy to install and set up by loading the supplied software and plugging the unit in. This printer features pleasing contours that will complement any home office décor. Using wired connectivity and with USB and parallel ports, it’s easy to connect the unit to storage devices such as memory sticks and to a PC for more control over the printed output.
Design
The HP Deskjet-648c weighs 11.68 lb and measures 17.2 x 16 x 7.8 in, making it a simple matter to move about the workspace and position on any convenient surface. The printer’s maximum print resolution for monochrome is 600x600 dpi and for colour 600x300 dpi, and its maximum black-and-white print speed is 6 ppm, which is sufficient for the majority of users whether for domestic or small office use. The printer can be used conveniently to print onto a range of common office materials such as plain paper, envelopes, transparencies, photo paper, iron-on transfers, glossy paper and business cards, and it has a maximum capacity of 100 sheets.
Advantages
For the newcomer to home printing the HP Deskjet-648c is a superb choice, with its robust and solid build, easy setup from the box, decent print speed and flexibility in handling different types of output reliably and accurately. The parallel and USB ports allow it to be quickly and easily connected to memory sticks and a PC for additional printer control.
Disadvantages
The Deskjet-648c has no visual display for checking print previews, and its maximum speed of 6 ppm may not be sufficient for some users, who might therefore prefer to scale up to higher models in the same range.
