Canon Plays Security Card with Adobe on its Side

Canon LogoCanon is trying to tap the enterprise market with its new imageRunner Advanced printer series which is soon to be launched. The printer series comes with a security feature powered by Adobe Systems which involves PDF sharing through the printer on a network, and only to those users with proper accesses.

As per the company’s statement – Users can send documents to an Adobe rights management policy server, which can securely share documents on a network, but prevent them from being printed or amended, depending on the policy setup.

Although the partnership is in limelight today was started in 2005 and will enable Canon to mount Adobe’s LiveCycle Rights Management ES software on its imageRunner series and the software can be accessed directly from the control panel.

To promote print on demand, users can now access their documents directly from a Microsoft sharepoint from the printer’s control panel and print it right away. No need of accessing documents through a PC to run the print command anymore!

These are some nice additions to Canon’s quiver which was lacking depth in the enterprise market. Time will tell us how the partnership will allow Canon to grow in this market.
