Canon LaserShot LBP-2000 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon LaserShot LBP-2000 printer

Our Verdict:

The Canon LaserShot LBP-2000 mono laser printer is an entry-level device that is straightforward to use while providing high quality and fast output. This network-ready device can be shared by a small workgroup, too, while users can enjoy lower running costs, but there are a few things lacking that could make the LBP-2000 LaserShot quite challenging to configure.

Design

A space-saving breadbox design gives the Canon LaserShot LBP-2000 printer a more stylish and contemporary appeal when placed in a home or small office. The media feeders include a 125-sheet tray and a manual feed slot. USB is the standard interface, while the entire device runs on 512Kb of memory. The device uses on-demand fixing technology and automatic image refinement at 600dpi. The LaserShot LBP-2000 workgroup printer weighs approximately six kilograms and measures 240mm tall, 307mm deep, and 362mm wide.

Advantages

The Canon LaserShot LBP-2000 laser printer is easy to set-up and install to the computer. There is a multi-purpose feeder for speciality media and envelopes. The device requires little warm-up time. The print speed is fast enough for low volume jobs, at up to 10ppm. It warms up fast and less power is required by the Canon LaserShot 2000 to run. Users can save with the all-in-one Canon cartridge or install a cheaper compatible Canon LBP-2000 laser toner for even bigger savings.

Disadvantages

It is not compatible with Mac. The print enhancement software should be installed so the LBP-2000 can print in high 2400dpi resolution. There are no on-board operational controls, so full operations are dependent on the software, which can be inconvenient when jobs need to be cancelled. When paper jam occurs, it can be difficult to remove the paper from the Canon LBP2000. The memory cannot be expanded. The printer is quite noisy for a laser printer.
