The HP Laserjet 3100 printer is designed for the home office and small business that demand a speedy multifunction device. The Laserjet 3100 all-in-one printer boasts a basic but reliable fax machine, an 8-bit monochrome scanner, and a fairly fast copier, but compatibility issues with higher versions of Windows are common.
Design
Its industrial design makes the HP Laserjet 3100 MFP printer a good addition to a professional workplace or a home office. An ADF and 100-sheet standard feeder are located on top, adjacent to the control panel with neatly arranged buttons and a 1-line mono display screen. Users have the option to install a steel paper catcher on the output area when required. The entire device weighs 10.61Kg and measures 15.1 inches wide, 15.4 inches deep, and 10.7 inches tall.
Advantages
The HP Laserjet 3100 multifunction printer is an all-in-one communications centre with a robust 14.4Kbps G3-compatible fax machine, which is full-featured with fax forwarding, automatic redialling, and DRPD feature. The 30-sheet automatic document feeder and plain paper faxing means the output won't fade. The copy speeds of the HP Laserjet 3100 are acceptable, at up to 6cpm. The genuine HP 06A toner for the Laserjet 3100 is reasonably priced but those on a limited budget may wish to consider using a recycled HP LaserJet 3100 toner which is also compatible with this device.
Disadvantages
The monthly duty cycle is only 6,000 pages, making the HP 3100 Laserjet limited to low volume output. The standard memory is not expandable and the maximum copy resolution is only up to 300x300dpi. Graphics and photos do not look too impressive when printed or copied using the HP Laserjet 3100. Unlike other multifunction devices, the HP 3100 all-in-one laser printer doesn't offer colour scanning and it lacks a handset, too.
