HP LaserJet 3100se Printer Review

Expert review of the HP LaserJet 3100se printer

Our Verdict:

The HP LaserJet 3100SE is a multifunction printer with a digital scanner, fax machine, and TWAIN-compliant scanner designed for the needs of small businesses. The HP LaserJet 3100SE all-in-one laser printer is praised for the ability to print high quality documents, but it is notably slow, prone to paper jams, and doesn't offer many expandability options to accommodate the needs of a growing workgroup.

Measuring 15.1 inches wide, 15.4 inches tall, and 10.7 inches deep, the HP LaserJet 3100SE mono laser printer may appear boxy, but it is surprisingly compact for the small office. The front face is home to the simple and easy-to-use control panel with a small, monochromatic display screen. The HP 3100SE LaserJet printer weighs 10.61Kg and it runs on 2MB of RAM with a 25.6MHz Motorola 68020 processor. There is a 100-sheet manual load paper feed and a single sheet autoload feeder for speciality paper, while connectivity includes a parallel and RJ11 phone port.

The HP LaserJet 3100SE all-in-one is multifunctional and the 600x600dpi resolution ensures sharper and legible output for text documents and simple graphics. The fairly compact size lets the HP LaserJet 3100SE multifunction printer fit seamlessly onto a standard office desk without occupying a lot of space. The device comes with a good selection of software for easy installation, set up, and usage. Recycled HP LaserJet 3100SE cartridges are offered at a discounted price for those wishing to cut back on toner costs.

It only prints in monochrome and with limited support for media types. The LaserJet 3100SE is not a network-friendly printer and for a laser device, it is quite noisy when operating. The sub par print speeds go up to 6ppm, while the connectivity options are outdated. The HP 3100SE uses a sheetfed scanner, so it cannot handle thicker media like magazines and books. The fax machine is also slow and the functions are very limited. There are no means to expand the paper capacity.
