The Oki B2400 is a compact monochromatic laser printer that is suitable for the home user, or small home business user. This digital laser printer comes equipped with a built-in paper tray that holds up to 150 sheets of paper, and offers users the ability to insert single sheets of various types of paper via the front-feeding multipurpose paper feeder. It can reach printing speeds of up to 20 pages per minute at a resolution of 1,200 x 600 dpi, and its first page is printed in only five seconds. This printer comes standard with 8 MB of installed RAM; however, the B2400n comes with 16 MB of RAM. The included Oki B2400 toner cartridge can print up to 2,000 text printed pages, and the expected image drum-life is reported to be 15,000 continuous text printed pages. Oki B2400 toners are available in a standard capacity cartridge of 2,000 pages, and an enhanced capacity cartridge that can produce 15,000 text printed pages. The Oki B2400 can print on several types of media, including bonded paper, plain paper, and envelopes. Additionally, this diminutive printer is capable of PCL 5E, Epson FX, PCL 6, and IBM ProPrinter III XL language emulation.
The Oki B2400 is impressively styled with rounded features, and a multi-tonal expression. The base of the printer is finished in silver-grey, and the user controls and indicator LEDs are presented in column format along the long edges of the front of the printer. The top casing is finished in a medium grey, while the paper feeder is made of a translucent darker gray plastic. Users can choose from two common types of input connections, a standard IEEE 1284 parallel port, or a high speed USB 2.0 port.
The B2400 series printer has a small footprint, is lightweight and portable, and is priced and positioned for the home user. Being small does not mean it is lacking technological sophistication. This Oki printer incorporates the use of a 266 MHZ microprocessor, and performs its document imaging digitally, just like its larger, more expensive counterparts. Moreover, the Oki printer includes a software package that allows users to make fine adjustments to the quality of the printed documents.
For a compact laser printer, the B2400 produces a considerable amount of noise, reaching a level of 52db when printing. Additionally, unless the B2400n version is purchased, this printer has no networking capability. Moreover, due to its odd total resolution, graphics definition will be lacking.
