Panasonic Panafax UF-490 Printer Review
Expert review of the Panasonic Panafax UF-490 printer
The compact and robust Panasonic UF-490 fax machine features a stylish design and powerful features for more productivity, speedy message transmissions, and a more efficient communications network in a small office. The Panasonic Panafax UF-490 plain paper laser fax is a versatile machine with copy, print, fax, and scan functions, but it can only print in monochrome and the print speeds are insufficient for large volume jobs.
Design
This 7.3Kg fax machine features a stylish breadbox-type frame that measures 14 inches wide, 8.7 inches tall, and 14.3 inches deep. The centrepiece of the multifunctional Panafax UF-4100 desktop imaging station is the simple control panel with a small display screen positioned above the numeric keypad. One-touch operational buttons are included in the button layout on the right-hand corner of the Panasonic Panafax UF-490 laser printer. This laser multifunction printer uses a black Panasonic UG-3221 fax toner capable of printing up to 6,000 pages.
Advantages
The super G3 33.6Kbps fax modem ensures fast and smooth message transmissions, while the 600x600dpi laser printer ensures crisp, legible, and sharp text documents. The Panasonic Panafax UF490 laser fax comes with a TWAIN image scanner and an excellent software package for document management. Up to 100 telephone numbers can be stored in the Panasonic UF-490 all-in-one fax printer, and when errors occur or the toner levels are low, a fax is automatically sent to the Panasonic service centre for fast and reliable technical support.
Disadvantages
The Panasonic Panafax UF-490 only prints in black-and-white, and very detailed images and graphics may lose some of their quality because of the limited 600dpi resolution. Compatibility is another issue with the UF-490 fax, especially with higher versions of Windows. The Panasonic Panafax UF-490 printer is not compatible with Mac computers. The sheet-fed scanner limits the types and sizes of objects that can be scanned.
