  • How much ink is in the Brother LC-980 cartridges? I've recently bought a Brother DCP-197C inkjet printer and am looking for information on the ink cartridges.

    Brother LC980 ink volumes

The genuine Brother LC-980 ink cartridges each contain 15.6ml of ink.

  • We have a Brother DCP197C and we'd like to buy another Brother printer that takes the same cartridges (LC980). Please advise a list of Brother printers that take the same cartridges for commonality of spares? Thanks, Arnold.

    Printers that use LC980 cartridges

The Brother LC980 ink cartridges can work in numerous printers made by Brother. The four colour mulitpack which contains all the LC980 cartridges will give you the best indication of which printers will accept all four LC980 ink cartridges. The list of printers compatible with LC980 ink cartridges are shown below the yellow banner in blue text on this page:

  • Hello. I'm interested in buying cartridges for the Brother DCP-197C printer. Please can you advise which cartridges I need for this printer. The cartridges that came with the printer said, "B-LC 11/16/38/61/65/67/980/990/110" on the cartridges and did not work with the printer. Are these cartridges for a different Brother printer, and not for the DCP-197C? Many thanks for your help. Yours sincerely, John Graham.

    Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges

I'm afraid we don't recognise the cartridge munbers you've quoted to us. However, the UK model Brother DCP-197C requires the Brother LC980 ink cartridges as listed on this page. This includes LC-980BK, LC980C, LC980M and LC980Y.

  • I'm getting very poor quality printing from my DCP-197C even with a new cartridge and after cleaning the printer several times, why is this? It's a new printer from you.

    Poor print quality from DCP-197C

We do not sell printers so this is not possible. We suggest that you contact the actual supplier of your Brother DCP-197C printer. However, If you have any problems with ink cartridges bought at Cartridge Save then please contact us by clicking on the link below:

  • Why are genuine Brother cartridges so much more expensive than compatible DCP-197C cartridges?

    Brother DCP-197C ink prices

The genuine Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges are offical supplies from the OEM manufacturer so you'll always pay a higher price for them. To give you a cheaper alternative, third-party manufacturers have released their own branded cartridges which are also of high quality and can perform to a similar standard in your machine.

The capacity of our compatible Brother DCP-197C ink cartridge is the same as the genuine version at 15.6ml.

  • Your price for a set of four colour ink cartridges for the Brother DCP-197C printer is around three times lower than other prices I've seen online. If there a reason why they're so cheap?

    Cheap Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges

We supply a cheap set of compatible Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges which are made by a third-party manufacturer rather than Brother which might explain why they're a lot cheaper than other packs of Brother DCP-197C ink you've seen online, if you're comparaing them to the price of original Brother cartridges. We do also sell a pack of four genuine Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges which costs more than the compatible set. However, you can be sure that our premium brand set of compatible Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges are still very high in quality and offer you excellent value for money. We include a 30 day money back guarantee with all purchases of compatible Brother DCP-197C ink cartridges so you can buy with confidence.

  • Hi, because I use a lot more black ink than colour, can I replace the black cartridge only in my DCP-197C printer? Thanks.

    Brother DCP-197C cartridge replacement

You only need to replace the colour which runs out in your Brother DCP-197C printer. However, because the Brother DCP-197C is a colour inkjet printer that uses four separate colour cartridges you'll need to have each of the black, cyan, magenta and yellow LC980 cartridges installed with some remaining ink in them to keep the printer running. If you use up more black ink then it means you'll have to replace the black LC980BK ink cartridge more frequently than the colour cartridges.

  • I have a Brother DCP-197C printer and where you place the ink it says "LC980BK". Are Cartridge Save Brother LC980VALBRF the right cartridges for it?

    Brother DCP-197C printer cartridges

Yes, our compatible Brother LC980VALBRF pack contains all four of the compatible LC980BK, LC980C, LC980M and LC980Y ink cartridges required by the Brother DCP-197C printer. Please note, these are premium brand recycled LC980 cartridges which act as cheaper alternatives to the genuine Brother cartridges and are manufactured by a third party.

Brother DCP-197C Printer Review

Expert review of the Brother DCP-197C printer 15 June 2012

Our Verdict:

With an understated design, the Brother DCP-197C colour inkjet printer seems like a simple box-type printer until users take a closer look at it. The DCP-197C is actually a multifunction device integrated with a colour copier and scanner, and a convenient direct print interface that helps increase productivity and save time. Aimed at home users, this entry-level machine is fairly affordable with acceptable print speeds, but the DCP197C may not be the best option for photo printing.

There is nothing much to the design of the Brother DCP-197C multifunction printer; it closely resembles its predecessors. Despite the slightly wider footprint, it can still fit into cramped and standard-sized desktops. Most of the top part is dominated by the flatbed CIS scanner and copier, with the control panel slightly angled beneath it. There is a 16x1-line display for viewing the printer status and navigating the menus with the intuitive buttons. The front panel of the DCP-197C inkjet printer is home to the paper input and output trays and the direct print feature, which includes a memory card slot and a PictBridge port.

The Brother DCP-197C all-in-one is cheaper to run because of the individual and high-capacity ink cartridges. The DCP-197C is also fairly light and compact with consistent print speeds and a versatile scanner that allows users to scan documents into editable text or directly send images to their media card or email programme. The Brother DCP197C prints good-looking black-and-white documents with clean and sharp characters.

Print quality is not too impressive and users need to make manual configurations using the on-screen software if they want to improve the colours and overall output. The Brother DCP-197C inkjet is also inefficient for photo printing. Some users may encounter installation issues if they are using the Brother DCP 197C with a Windows 7 computer. Another drawback is the non-backlit 1-line, 16-character display, which makes the device's status difficult to read under poor lighting.
