Canon Pixma iP1900 Printer Review
Expert review of the Canon Pixma iP1900 printer 26 April, 2011
Our Verdict:
The Canon iP1900 inkjet printer is a budget inkjet that is perfect for light home use. Despite its price, the print quality is fantastic. Speed is a slight issue but if you are only using it at home then this shouldn’t be a problem. Lack of Wi-Fi and memory card support may also put off those who are looking to bypass the computer and print directly.
Design
The printer is fairly compact and the matte-black finish looks stylish. The rear paper tray which holds 100 sheets can be folded down, to save on space when you’re not printing. Disappointingly, there’s no paper output tray, leaving the paper to fall directly onto the desk or on the floor – not ideal! There are just two buttons on the printer, one that controls the power and the other to manage paper jams. The USB port that connects to your computer is located on the side of the printer and the power supply is at the rear. Replacing the Canon iP1900 ink cartridges is simple and takes a matter of seconds.
Advantages
The Canon PIXMA iP1900 ink printer comes with an impressive software package including Auto Photo Fix, which turns your amateur snaps into professional looking prints. Print output is of a high quality and is partly due to the fact that Canon uses the same print engine across the whole range. Photo prints are clear and coloured graphics appear vibrant with no signs of banding. Text documents are equally impressive and far exceeds expectations for a budget printer.
Disadvantages
Canon’s quoted print speed is slightly optimistic; expect speeds of around 9ppm for black print and 7ppm for colour. This is fairly slow, but if you are only using the printer for low volumes then it should suffice. As with any printer, a lack of Wi-Fi is disappointing but hardly surprising considering the cost, it would have also been nice to see extra menu functionality on the printer itself.
