Our Verdict:

The Canon Selphy CP100 is a portable and dedicated photo printer designed to work with Canon digital cameras. It is convenient for amateur photographers and families that would like to have fun with photo projects, but it uses dye-based inks, which may fade faster in time.

Design

Integrated with a competitive printing system, the Canon Selphy CP100 uses dye-sublimation thermal transfer printing as its printing method with 3 colour inks that have over coating. The printer relies on auto feed from the paper cassette, and using USB, it can be connected to a computer or a digital camera. An optional battery pack can be integrated into the device when AC power is not available.

Advantages

The dye-based inks are great for more vibrant and accurate colours, so users can enjoy true-to-life photographs. The Selphy CP100 is compatible with a range of digital cameras from the PowerShot and Ixus line, and the device prints rather fast (81 seconds on postcard-size media and 40 seconds on mini stickers, L size, and credit card size media). It is possible to configure the Canon Selphy CP100 to print without borders run on rechargeable batteries.

Disadvantages

Although the Canon Selphy CP100 is designed to be compatible with Canon digital cameras, it is limited to older models including the PowerShot A1000, Ixus v, and S30. Dye-based inks are not the best choice for long-lasting and smudge-proof photos. Another drawback is the size of the Canon Selphy CP100, which is a little bulkier and heavier than the previous CP-10. There are no wireless printing capabilities. Users who want high-resolution photographs might be disappointed with the maximum 300x300dpi resolution. The battery pack can only support up to 18 postcard-size prints when fully charged.
