  • Does this ink dry up if not used? Can HP Deskjet D2460 cartridges be refilled and how many times? Can users refill the HP D2460 cartridges themselves? Please give the specification for which cartridge numbers can be used in this printer? Thanks, Hasan.

    Refilling Deskjet D2460 cartridges

We advise that the genuine and compatible HP Deskjet D2460 ink cartridges will have a shelf life of 12 months from the date of purchase when stored in their unopened boxes. Once your Deskjet D2460 ink is installed in the printer it can dry up quickly if the printer isn't used regularly so we advise that you print a test page at least once a week to prevent this from happening. The HP Deskjet D2460 printer requires you to install one black and one tri-colour cartridge or an optional photo colour cartridge in the black slot. Each cartridge must have remaining ink. You can use any combination of the ink cartridges listed on this page (HP 21, 21XL, 22, 22XL, 58) following the configuration previously explained. You can also use the Jet Tec R26, R27 and R31 refill kits to refill the Deskjet D2460 cartridges yourself and full instructions on how to do this are provided with the refill kits.

HP Deskjet D2460 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet D2460 printer 01 March 2012

Our Verdict:

The HP Deskjet D2460 is suitable for home use because of its low price and reliable performance. It produces good quality documents and can do borderless printing for photos of up to 4 x 6 inches. It is easy to install and operate and even comes with Photosmart Essential for easy photo printing.

Design

This minimalistic printer has a foldable paper tray and 3 easy-touch buttons. It has a total media capacity of 80 sheets and uses either 4 or 6 ink cartridges. The maximum resolution for black and white is 1200 dpi and 4800 x 1200 dpi and for coloured. One of the fastest in the market, the HP Deskjet D2460 boasts a print speed of up to 20 ppm.

Advantages

The HP Deskjet D2460 is really low priced; in fact, it is even cheaper than some ink cartridges. It is reliable and can be used for many years, with proper care. It features a 'cancel print' button that not only saves paper but also cuts down ink consumption. Even when one cartridge has run out of ink, the HP Deskjet D2460 can still continue printing using 'ink-back up' mode. It's easy to check the amount of ink in each cartridge with the ink level indicator.

Disadvantages

HP is known for its pricey ink cartridges, and the HP Deskjet D2460 is no exception. The printer's double-sided printing capacity doesn't work when in “black only" mode.
