HP Photosmart 240 Printer Review
Expert review of the HP Photosmart 240 printer
28 May 2012
The HP Photosmart 240 series offers portable photo printers that can be used for amateur photography and even home projects. It consists of 3 models – Photosmart 245, 245v and 245xi – which are basically the same printers, except that the V model offers photo printing from videos, while the XI model offers networking. These machines come bundled with exciting software packages. The HP Photosmart 240 is still limited to printing 4x6 photos, though, unlike other photo-centric printers that offer large format printing.
The typical printer from the HP Photosmart 240 series measures only about 8x5x4 inches and weighs only 2.9 pounds. Just like the Photosmart 140 series, the HP Photosmart 240 devices feature fold-up photo paper trays, 4 memory card slots, and top-panel controls with small LCD displays. These machines come in grey and are very compact.
Ideal for those who are always on the go, the Photosmart 240 series provides users with a choice of units that can fit their needs. The base model offers quality photo prints using either the tri-colour or the photo grey ink tank, while the V and XI models offer photo printing from videos and networking, giving users more options.
HP Photosmart 240 series printers however, do not offer PictBridge support, which can be very useful for those who want to maximise the standalone feature. The inclusion of an LCD display offering coloured previews rather than being limited to monochrome text would also be a big improvement where the Photosmart 240 range is concerned.
