Part of the Photosmart range, the C4480 is described by HP as a multi-media device that can print, copy and scan pretty much anything. The HP C4480 printer is one of most compatible entry-level all-in-one devices on the market, with not one but two memory card slots. And unlike other all-in-one printers, HP haven't neglected the quality of the scanner or copier – making the Photosmart C4480 excellent value for money.

Design

HP have bucked the trend with the C4480, opting for an Apple-esque gloss white finish. The printer also comes with a full colour display which allows you to copy and cancel prints. As mentioned earlier there are two memory card slots at the front of the printer that accept Memorystick, XD and SD formats. The paper tray which folds down from the front can handle a respectable 100 sheets and also doubles up as the output tray.

Advantages

The HP C4480 inkjet printer isn't just a pretty face; its quality is strides ahead of other market-entry priced printers. It produces rich black text and bright colour graphics with just a touch of fading. Reproduction of text over colour is also impressive. Surprisingly, photo prints were of a good quality too, with plenty of detail and no signs of pixilation. The colour copier produced accurate results even when replicating detailed photographs.

Disadvantages

Despite the C4480 having a number of connection ports it would have been nice to add WiFi. The speed of the printer is also an issue (8 pages per minute black and 5 pages per minute colour) and could pose problems if you frequently print large documents. The speed of the flatbed scanner is also slightly disappointing with a simple word document taking close to a minute to complete.
