Pitney Bowes DM500 Printer Review

Expert review of the Pitney Bowes DM500 printer 02 January 2013

Our Verdict:

The Pitney Bowes DM500 franking machine is an innovative mailing solution that increases productivity in a busy workplace through advanced digital technologies, automatic media feeding, and a user-friendly interface. The DM500 printer complies with most postal standards in the world, and it is fairly fast, but users may need to allot more installation space for it.

Design

With the stacker, the Pitney Bowes DM500 digital mailing system requires more headroom. It is 19 inches in diameter and features a matte, plastic frame. The topmost part is home to the control panel with a fairly large display screen. Connectivity is simplified with IntelliLink Control Centre and a standard analogue phone line.

Advantages

This franking machine can print up to 135 letters per minute. Envelopes that are up to 16mm thick can be supported and users can leave the Pitney Bowes DM-500 unattended because of the automatic document feeder and seal the envelopes on its own. Other notable features of the Pitney DM500 ribbon printer include auto-dating, low postage level alerts, automatic label dispenser, and PIN-protected security. Online suppliers offer cheaper compatible Pitney Bowes DM500 series ink cartridges to lower the machine's running costs.

Disadvantages

The price of the Pitney Bowes DM500 franking printer leans more toward the mid to large-scale office than smaller workgroups. This lengthy device spans 49.5 inches wide, so it needs a larger table and more installation space. The Pitney Bowes DM500 inkjet printer is quite noisy, too, and it can be confusing to operate especially for first-time users because some buttons are not clearly labelled.
