The Brother MFC-L8850CDW is a workhorse for small workgroups and medium-sized businesses that require a versatile multi-function printer with built-in fax. It is fast and helps reduce colour printing costs, while the expandable paper handling allows it to deliver documents in high volume. However, it is expensive and it lacks further upgrades to make it more useful and faster in a busier environment.

Design

The Brother MFC-L8850CDW weighs 24.8kg and measures 19.3 inches wide, 20.0 inches tall, and 20.7 inches deep. Its centrepiece is the minimalist control panel with a 4.85-inch colour touch screen display, which offers intuitive short cuts, menu navigation, and one-touch functions. The MFC-L8850CDW runs on 256MB of memory. Paper handling is via a 50-sheet multi-purpose tray, 300-sheet tray, and a 50-sheet ADF. Fax speed is 33.6Kbps. The unit's standard interfaces are high-speed USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet.

Advantages

Standalone copying is supported, as well as printing directly from mobile devices and a USB flash drive. The Brother MFC-L8850CDW produces sharp and vibrant colour documents and images on plain paper and specialty media. Connectivity is flexible, on-board operation are easy, and printing costs are controllable with a secure function lock and a usage control function in the Brother MFC-L8850CDW. Duplexing is standard. Users can save time with an automatic document feeder, walk-up scanning and printing, and advanced scanning capabilities like scan-to network folder, email, and OCR.

Disadvantages

This model needs more installation space because of the long and bulky frame. The Brother MFC-L8850CDW is heavy. Expansions for the memory and paper capacity are limited. The fax machine of the Brother MFC-L8850CDW does not have caller ID and call waiting features. The copier lacks a poster function.
