Our Verdict:
The HP Colour LaserJet CP1515n is what's known as a "workgroup printer," meaning it comes with some advanced options and benefits that make it great for business users and offices. These perks include a faster processor in the printer itself as well as high-capacity HP CP1515n toner cartridges and built-in networking.
Design
The HP CP1515n is a typical workgroup laser printer, featuring a 450 MHz internal processor and a high-capacity HP CP1515n toner cartridge. Like many of its contemporaries, the LaserJet CP1515n supports colour printing at a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. And it can produce a respectable 12 pages per minute of black-and-white text.
Advantages
The benefits of a 450 MHz process inside the printer can't be overstated. This processor is a good deal more powerful than those found in lower-end consumer models and helps the printer translate the computer's "instructions" into a printed page more quickly. This saves it from the folly of many other HP printers which can churn out a mere 6or 7 pages per minute instead of 12. The presence of this processor also enables this particular HP LaserJet model to support duplex printing.
The HP CP1515n, as a printer designed for office and business environments, also supports wired networking. This allows users to simply hook the device into a computer or a wired router and allow all connected computers in a network to use the printer. For office settings, this is a truly must-have feature and the HP LaserJet is easy to configure.
Coming in at 16" x18" x10", the HP CP1515N is a relatively compact model that will save space in the office. Its fast processor and small design are relatively quiet and won't cause distractions when producing a large printing job, which is a relief to many business users.
Disadvantages
Despite its fast 450MHz processor, there is room for improvement. Competing colour laser printers have been known to print black-and-white text pages at up to 25 pages per minute, more than double the rate of this HP model.
This printer does one function, and it does it well. The HP Colour LaserJet CP1515n may not produce the most pages per minute, but thanks to the HP CP1515n toner the text was very clear and colour images were great quality. For offices on a budget, this printer will get the job done slow and steady.
