laser black toner cartridges see 1 answer

Is there any difference between the" high capacity" HP 1012 and "black toner" cartridge, apart from price?
  • The difference between the toner cartridges available for you printer is that the high capacity toner cartridge has a 4000 page yield at 5% coverage and the standard toner cartridge has a 2000 page yield at a 5% coverage. So you get double the amount of toner powder in the high capacity cartridge than the standard cartridge.

HP Laserjet 1012 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Laserjet 1012 printer 21 April, 2011

Our Verdict:

HP Laserjet 1012 toner cartridges

The HP Laserjet 1012 is designed to be an efficient printer for at-home use, attaching via a USB cable which you must purchase separately, and printing at speeds up to 13 pages per minute. However, this machine will not hold up to heavy use in an office setting, due to the limited capacity of its paper tray, its liberal use of toner, and its overall speed.

Design

The power button on this machine is located on the back, which some may find inconvenient. Its software is designed to be easy to install, yet users have found that background applications, including anti-virus software, can disrupt the installation process, something which the user manual fails to mention. It is rather large for a printer of its somewhat limited capacity, but this should not be considered a drawback for those who need a reliable printer as part of a home office network. It is meant for one user.

Advantages

Clearly, this machine has some good features for a printer in this price range. The included software allows the user to print watermarks, making it ideal for a small business owner. Once connected, the software should not be difficult to install, provided that you've shut down any applications running in the background, including web browsers and any anti-virus programs. At 13 pages per minute, this machine prints sufficiently fast for a single user, but it is not ideal for multiple users to share.

Disadvantages

This printer is less than ideal for multiple users on a network, due to its small paper tray and its print speed of only 13 pages per minute. Also, the power button is located in the back of the machine next to the ac cord and the USB cable, making it necessary to reach behind the machine to turn it on and off. While these drawbacks are not enough to scare away some users, such as home business professionals and single users, a medium-sized business will not find this to be a suitable workhorse for heavy duty printing. The printer's dimensions are a bit bulky for a one-person printer.
