Kyocera TASKalfa 300i Printer Review

Expert review of the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i printer 10 January 2013

Our Verdict:

A busy medium-sized workgroup needs a fast and reliable multifunction machine with excellent paper handling capabilities and security features. That's just what the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i promises along with expandability options to include a speedy fax system. Long-life components ensure seamless operation and lower running costs for extended periods, but the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i monochrome A3 multifunctional printer is very expensive to buy itself.

Design

The Kyocera TASKalfa 300i multifunction printer is anything but understated with its matte and stylish body that weighs 75Kg, yet it requires more room for installation because of its 767.2mm tall, 630mm deep, and 570mm wide frame. Its centrepiece is the large operator panel with the oversized display screen. The TASKalfa 300i printer runs on 2048MB of RAM and a 600MHz PowerPC processor, and connectivity options include Fast Ethernet and high-speed USB 2.0. Standard paper handling includes two 500-sheet standard paper cassettes and a 200-sheet multi-purpose tray.

Advantages

Text documents are printed sharply, and users can save resources with standard two-sided printing. It is possible to increase the paper capacity of the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i MFP to 2,200 sheets. The printer supports a range of printer languages and emulations in most operating systems including Mac and LINUX. Users may store documents and accounts for security into the 160GB menu. It is possible to scan directly to a USB thumb drive. The print speed of the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i mono laser printer is up to 30ppm on A4-sized paper. The productive TASKalfa 300i toner can handle heavy workloads easily with its capacity of 20,000 pages.

Disadvantages

Price is among the drawbacks of the Kyocera TASKalfa 300i workgroup printer because the base unit is expensive and upgrading it to include dual fax ports or internet fax means spending more. Fax is not a standard feature. The Kyocera 300i mono multifunction printer is notably noisy, too, and it may become unsuitable for creative environments because of the absence of colour technology.
