Sharp AR-M256 Printer Review

Expert review of the Sharp AR-M256 printer

Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The Sharp AR-M256 digital multifunctional system is designed for a small business that needs a versatile and reliable copier with optional multifunctional capabilities for its daily document processing needs. Sharp improved the speed and provided a range of useful expansion options and high-end security features for the Sharp ARM256 copier, but users are expected to pay more for what they are actually getting.

Design

The desktop base unit measures 665mm tall, 615mm deep, and 623mm wide, and weighs approximately 49.2Kg. With expansions for document handling, the Sharp AR-M256 digital copier becomes taller and wider, requiring more floor space. The default paper capacity is up to 1,100 sheets, with a 100-sheet multi-bypass tray and two 500-sheet trays, while the standard memory is 32MB. The Sharp AR-M256 multifunction printer connects to a computer via parallel or USB 2.0.

Advantages

Print and copy speeds are up to 25ppm. The large LCD panel makes it easier to configure and operate the Sharp AR-M256 laser copier. It is also praised for its multi-layered security features, environment-friendly qualities, and crisp text output. The Sharp AR M256 digital printer comes with automated job finishing, electronic offset stacking and sorting, and standard two-sided printing capabilities. The maximum paper capacity is up to 2,100 sheets, while the memory is upgradeable to 1,056MB. With an estimated capacity of 25,000 pages, the Sharp AR-M256 toner can handle heavy workloads effectively at a low cost-per-copy.

Disadvantages

The AR-M256 printer is expensive and users must pay more if they with to integrate add-ons like faxing and network scanning, or upgrade the memory and paper capacity. The default 600x600dpi resolution of the black and white Sharp AR-M256 copier is insufficient for printing high quality graphics and very detailed pictures or graphics. Unfortunately, the SPLC driver for the base printer is only compatible with Windows operating systems.
