  • I can't get the printer (Canon MP280) to work although I've installed the inks and followed instructions carefully. I do not want to ever use colour ink. We never do photos and we've only used black ink cartridges for all the printers we've owned in the past. We only need the printer to print emails or download news items from the internet. The manual doesn't say we need to have a colour cartridge installed. If indeed, the printer will not work without one, I never would have bought this printer. I hope you will help me?

    Pixma MP280 ink cartridge setup

As we do not sell printers it's difficult for us to advise on the specific functions of every printer model. It is common that a colour printer such as the Canon Pixma MP280 will require both a black and a colour cartridge installed in the printer with at least some remaining ink in order to print in black. However, there may be a setting that will bypass this so you can print without a colour cartridge. This information should be available in your printer manual. Otherwise, we would advise that you contact Canon directly for technical support.

  • Please can you me tell where the cartridge is hidden in the Pixma MP280 printer and how to replace it? Many thanks, Joe.

    Replacing Canon MP280 print cartridge

These instructions should be in your Canon Pixma MP280 printer manual. If you don't have this manual any longer you can download it on the Canon website.

  • Hi there, my Canon Pixma MP280 cartridges don't print anywhere near the quantities you say they should do. Why?

    Canon Pixma MP280 ink yields

The ink yields stated on our website are always based on the manufacturer's estimate. However, please be aware that the yield of a Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridge is based on printing at 5% coverage of an A4 page. If you're printing anything above 5% coverage or graphics that might use up a lot of ink then the page yield of the cartridge will be significantly less. This hopefully explains why you're not getting the same number of pages as you'd anticipated.

  • Why would I have been sold an 810 black cartridge and 811 colour cartridge for a Canon MP280 printer. If they aren\x92t correct, what do I need?

    Canon Pixma MP280 cartridge numbers

It depends on where you purchased your Canon Pixma MP280 printer as to which cartridge numbers it requires. In the UK, the correct cartridges for the Canon Pixma MP280 printer are PG-510, PG-512, CL-511 and CL-513 as listed on our website. We don't stock PG-810 or CL-811 ink cartridges as these are non-UK cartridges and suggest that your printer was purchased outside of the UK, or that you've purchased cartridges from a company that supplies ink for non-UK printers. We advise you to buy the cartridges listed on this page if you have the Canon Pixma MP280 printer (UK model). If you have the (US model) Canon Pixma MP280 printer or another version please contact Canon directly to confirm which are the correct cartridge numbers and where to obtain them from.

  • i have got a mp230 series canon printer .i couldnt print more than 20 pages from one catrige.and my ink catridge no is PG 810 and cl 811. can pls help me why icouldnt print properly.

ink catridge for mp series 230

I cant seem to find the cartridge codes PG810 or CL811, are you referring to PG510 and CL511? Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems when printing. Please follow the steps below which should get you back up and running.

Start by turning the printer off and leave turned off for 10-15 minutes. Whilst our machine is turned off if you can check the tear away strips are fully removed. Then wipe the chip with a damp cloth making sure there is not any dust on there. Once you have waited 10-15 minutes turn the printer back on without the ink cartridges inside allowing it fully load up then it should display an error message recognising the cartridges are missing. Once this error message occurs put the cartridges back in the printer, pushing down firmly to assure they are fully in position. If you have any further problems please get in touch but hopefully you should be back up and running.

Canon Pixma MP280 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon Pixma MP280 printer 25 February 2014

Our Verdict:

This inexpensive all-in-one printer packs powerful features in one compact and stylish body and is designed for small offices and homes. It makes photo printing easier for the amateur photographer. However, the Canon Pixma MP280 lacks wireless networking and a document feeder. Users also complain that the control panel is overwhelming, and that replacement inks are pricey.

Design

The Pixma MP280 is sleek and compact device at 6 inches tall and almost 18 inches wide, so it does not take up too much space. It is quite lightweight and mobile, with a sturdy construction. The Canon Pixma MP280 can be noisy when in 'fast' mode. The control panel is readily accessible on top of the machine, but it lacks an LCD screen. Connectivity options are limited to wired USB. The scanner promises vivid images with a resolution of 2400 pixels per inch.

Advantages

It is an inexpensive multifunction printer that can scan and copy, too. The print quality is solid especially for graphics and text. It is capable of HD Photo printing as well as fast borderless printing (a 4x6-inch borderless print on photo paper is finished in just 43 seconds). Using the Hybrid Ink System, the Canon Pixma MP280 delivers crisp text and vivid photos.

Disadvantages

The Canon Pixma MP280's 'quiet mode' doesn't seem to work. Noise level is still high, even when printing drafts. At 4.8 ppm in colour and 8.4 ppm in monochrome, it is slower than similar printers from other brands. Inks for the Canon Pixma MP280 are not budget-friendly. Some users report being confused with the control panel, too. Connectivity is limited to a USB cord, and there are no built-in card readers or wireless capabilities, making it time-consuming to print documents and photos from mobile devices.
