Our Verdict:
The Dell 1100 is an economy model printer aimed at consumers that need a single use printer, but don't want to spend a lot of money. Dell's 1100 model is a laser printer capable of producing a 600 x 600 dpi printout. Customers who are interested in a decent device to supplement a photo printer, or print simple documents will find this product sufficient. Dell 1100 toner is included with the product when purchased new, and will last for the first 1,000 pages.
Design
As a basic printer, this model has a simple design. The outer casing is white and has two openings for paper. On top, the paper is fed in for use, while printed projects are released into the bottom tray. The bottom tray must remain open during printing, but can easily be folded for more storage options. Top and forward feeding also allow for the device to be used in a corner, or other small spaces. A 150 MHz processor allows the Dell 1100 to be one of the fastest printers in its class.
Advantages
Compared with other single function printers, the Dell 1100 is fairly competitive. With a 150 MHz processor, it is one of the most capable machines in the budget class. Simple text documents are the best, and the device can have a maximum output of over 13 pages per minute. The simple design also allows for easy use, including replacing the Dell 1100 toner cartridge. Most computers will automatically detect the 1100 when connected, making setup easy as well.
Disadvantages
Though this is a budget minded device, operation costs may be more than the initial purchasing fee. Dell 1100 toner is provided when the printer is purchased new, but only lasts for 1,000 pages of text prints only. Without a USB cable, most customers will have to invest more money as well unless you have a spare one from your old printer. Overall it is a great device for a budget class printer whose customers don't need extra frills.
