Canon MultiPass C5000 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon MultiPass C5000 printer

Our Verdict:
star

Both small and home offices will appreciate the Canon MultiPass C5000 because it is an efficient, space-saving multifunction printer with a fax machine and a digital copier. Because it is an old model, though, the MultiPass C5000 is outdated and sluggish by today's standards. You can get better value by purchasing a newer Canon all-in-one printer.

Design

Designed using bubble jet technology, the Canon MultiPass C5000 is a multifunction colour inkjet printer with an understated appearance that measures 15.7 inches wide, 7.8 inches tall, and 14.4 inches deep. The Canon MultiPass C5000 inkjet printer weighs approximately 5.6kg, connects to the PC via a parallel interface, and it is integrated with a 14.4kbps fax interface card. The sheet-fed scanner is TWAIN-compliant, and is fairly easy to operate.

Advantages

The MultiPass C5000 multifunction printer is one of the quieter inkjet devices around because it only emits up to 47dBA of sound when in operation. The media feeder of the Canon MultiPass C5000 printer can accommodate up to 100 sheets at a time, and the straight-curved media path prevents paper jam. The maximum resolution of the Canon MultiPass C-5000 all-in-one is 720x360dpi, which is good enough for printing text documents.

Disadvantages

The Canon MultiPass C5000 inkjet printer can only print up to 2ppm in colour and 5ppm in monochrome, making it rather slow when compared to faster and newer inkjet printers. The fax machine and copier are slow, too. Newer computers without parallel interface cannot use the device. It is impossible to expand the memory of the Canon MultiPass C-5000. The Canon C5000 multifunction printer is also quite expensive to run and lacks an Energy Star certification. The sheet-fed scanner makes it impossible to scan thick media.
