Canon MultiPass C555 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon MultiPass C555 printer

Our Verdict:

The Canon MultiPass is an inkjet colour printer with the ability to copy, scan and fax as well as print in colour. For such a small device, it packs in four functions, making it useful if space is limited. Achieving environmental standards, this machine is good for those concerned about the impact of energy use of the planet and will also see running costs reduced compared to a less energy efficient machine. The multiple features of the fax machine would make this a useful device in an office, if it were not for the slow printing speeds. If you just want to print a few pages at a time, this printer is adequate but any more than that is likely to be a frustratingly slow process.

Design

The Canon MultiPass is controlled by buttons on the front of the device and can be monitored from the one line, sixteen-character screen. Printing speeds are 5 ppm for monochrome printing and 2 ppm for colour documents. Printing resolution is 720 x 360 dpi. Connection is achieved via a parallel or USB interface. An input tray holds 100 sheets, while the automatic document feeder can hold 20 sheets. The dimensions of the printer are 36.5 x 34 x 20.8 cm, while the casing is in a grey colour compatible with most office decors.

Advantages

With the printer achieving energy compliant standards including the EPA energy star, this device can help reduce your environmental footprint. As a compact device with four functions, this printer is able to be used even when space is limited. The fax function has a memory capacity of thirty pages and features including speed dialling of 100 numbers, one touch dialling to 12 numbers and delayed transmission.

Disadvantages

With slow print speeds for monochrome printing and even slower for colour, the Canon MultiPass C-555 makes printing more than a page or two a laborious task.
