Canon imageRUNNER 1610 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon imageRUNNER 1610 printer

Our Verdict:

The Canon IR-1610 photocopier and printer is a basic office unit offering digital copying, printing, and faxing capabilities. It is a relatively compact device that can perform basic document handling functions. This makes the Canon IR-1610 printer the perfect choice for business environments. Equipped with a digital multifunction system, the device acts as a reliable document sharing platform for the workplace. However, it does not offer very impressive print speeds and many accessories are only optional upgrades like the expandable memory, card reader, and Ethernet interface.

Design

Built for busy office environments, the Canon IR-1610 all-in-one MFP has a robust design. It is still relatively compact at 615x631x662 mm or taller, with the additional paper cassettes. It has a built-in scanner, digital copier, and fax unit in addition to its 16 ppm monochrome printer. The Canon IR-1610 can handle maximum paper sizes from A6 through A3, and it has a standard 250-sheet paper cassette, which is expandable up to 1250, excluding the bypass tray, which adds another 100 sheets to its capacity.

Advantages

Multifunctionality is the best selling point of the Canon IR-1610 all-in-one, although the unit offers many other features to love. It has an expandable memory of up to 72 MB, and an optional 10GB hard disk, which increases productivity. Network connectivity is optional, but the unit does offer a built-in fax modem, which transmits at a speed of 33.6 Kbps.

Disadvantages

Its standard print speed of only 16 ppm slows the Canon IR-1610 down, especially when compared with similar devices that offer up to 30 to 40 ppm rates. Optional accessories also cost extra that are standard on many newer devices.
