HP Deskjet 656CVR Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet 656CVR printer

Our Verdict:

The HP Deskjet-656CVR is a compact inkjet colour printer that performs all the print functions required in a small office or domestic environment, handling document and photo processing with ease and reliability while printing on a range of different media. It has a pleasing, solid build and design, a very decent print speed for both monochrome and colour, good resolution and will fit neatly onto any available surface. Simple to set up and get running, the Deskjet 656CVR makes an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable all-rounder for regular print jobs.

Design

With dimensions of 18.6 x 10 x 8.7 in and weighing just 10.14 lb, the Deskjet 656CVR packs in surprising flexibility and power for its modest size. Maximum colour resolution is 600x300 dpi and for monochrome 600x600 dpi, and print speeds for monochrome and colour are 6 ppm and 3 ppm respectively. The feeder has a capacity of 100 sheets. The printer software is loaded from a supplied CD-ROM, and the printer has a USB port for connecting to a PC. The printer uses HP’s Image Enhancement Technology to guarantee the best quality photo output, and media types supported include envelopes, iron-on transfers, glossy paper, cards and transparencies in addition to plain paper for documents.

Advantages

The Deskjet 656CVR is a versatile all-rounder for small offices or home applications, easily set up from scratch and a reliable printer for a range of purposes. Image Enhancement Technology greatly enhances the print quality of photos or presentation print-outs, and the connectivity options allow the device to be integrated with existing equipment.

Disadvantages

Unfortunately, the HP Deskjet 656CVR has no copier or scanner functionality, and users short on space who prefer an integrated copier-printer-scanner may prefer to scale up or go for other models on the market. It is also quite slow when compared to newer models.
