Canon MultiPass C5500 Printer Review
Expert review of the Canon MultiPass C5500 printer
The Canon MultiPass C5500 is a multifunction printer able to print in colour, fax, scan and copy. With a compact design incorporating several devices, it is good for saving space. However, if you require frequent printing, this is likely to be a time consuming and costly task, with frequent downtime needed for cartridge refills. Initial setup is slow, although once this is completed, operation is straight forward. It does include useful features such as an answering machine, but the design is not the most efficient and will limit you in terms of how much you can copy and scan. For a home with only occasional printing required, this printer is adequate, but for anywhere busier, it is unlikely to meet requirements.
Design
The Canon MultiPass has printing speeds of 6.5 ppm for monochrome printing and 2.5 ppm for colour documents. It is controlled by buttons on the front of the device and connectivity is achieved via a parallel interface. Printing resolution is 720x360 dpi. A paper feeder at the rear of the machine holds 100 sheets. The dimensions of the machine are 40 x 36 x 20.5 cm and the printer comes in a grey design.
Advantages
With four office machines in one compact device, the Canon MultiPass C5500 is a useful space saving device, ideal for use in a small or home office where it can sit comfortably on a desktop. It prints in monochrome to a high standard and the fax facility is effective. The answering machine is a useful function.
Disadvantages
The software installation of the Canon MultiPass C5500 is time consuming with much that is unnecessary. The scanner is slow and as there is only a document feeder, it is impossible to scan or copy from books. Ink consumption is not efficient with refills frequently required. Printing speeds are slow, particularly when printing in colour.
