Aimed at discerning photographers, the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 is a professional-grade single-function printer that prints fast and ensures excellent monochrome and colour printouts. It could be a smart choice as a photo printer for amateur photographers, too, but it uses poor dye-based inks and is generally a rather bulky device.

Design

The Pixma Pro 9000 photo printer stands out from its predecessors and competitors with its larger footprint, weight, and the 8 dye-based ink system. There is a USB port in front (PictBridge) so it is possible to print directly from a camcorder or digital camera. There are wheels underneath the Pixma Pro 9000 to compensate for its weight and size, making it easy to move around or adjust its position. Canon integrated an outstanding print driver with simple and user-friendly controls.

Advantages

The Canon Pixma Pro 9000 is praised for its excellent colour and monochrome printouts. It is versatile enough to accommodate larger media measuring 13x19 inches, and prints fast, too. Paper is handled by the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 using a top and front feeding sections, and in best quality mode, the printer is fairly quiet with only up to 37dBA of sound.

Disadvantages

Although it is marketed as a photo printer, the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 does not have memory card readers as part of its direct printing feature. It is also heavy and bulky, weighing almost 14kg, and demanding a lot of space at 26 inches wide, 14 inches deep, and 7.6 inches tall. The Canon Pixma Pro 9000 uses dye-based inks so printouts do not last awfully long.
