Canon Selphy ES40 Printer Review

Expert review of the Canon Selphy ES40 printer

Our Verdict:

The Canon Selphy ES40 is basically the same device as the ES3, but with an interesting additional feature. In place of the ES3's generous internal memory, the ES40 walks users through different menus and functions and alerts users that printing is finished through a voice prompt. The voice prompt may prove to be of great help for users who are not as tech-savvy, though the voice can be turned off by those who don't feel the need for it. The Canon Selphy ES40 still offers the same high quality dye-sub printing technology, and sadly the same print rates, which many find slow by portable photo printer standards.

With the same fun vertical design as the previous models, the Canon ES40 Selphy compact photo printer barely leaves a footprint. The Canon ES40 weighs 4.8 pounds, and features all the same controls and menus, with some additional optimisation features as the other Selphy versions. Users may turn the voice prompt on or off through the additional voice button on the control panel. The Canon Selphy ES-40 photo printer doesn't have any design addition, but it retains the PictBridge and USB ports, as well as the memory card slots for direct printing.

The Canon Selphy ES40 inkjet photo printer is a very convenient device to own. It is portable, easy to use, and very economical, especially since it uses an easy to load ink and paper pack. The Selphy ES40 portable photo printer has many creative menus for making different photo projects, and its print outputs have pretty decent quality compared to competing devices. Photo packs for the Canon Selphy ES40 come with different quantities of photo paper depending on how many photos the user intends to print.

On the flip side, the Canon Selphy ES40 printer can only produce small format photos and print rates are still slightly sluggish.
