HP Deskjet 1600cn Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet 1600cn printer

Our Verdict:

Outlasting many devices from its day, the HP Deskjet 1600cn is a reliable single-function printer that is capable of wired networking. The Deskjet 1600cn is a basic colour printer that is still suitable for home and small office use, but may not be as appropriate in demanding office settings today as it was 2 decades ago. The HP Deskjet 1600cn inkjet printer also comes with an extra paper tray. Issues include low duty cycle.

The HP Deskjet 1600cn measures about 19x12x11.3 inches. It is a bit smaller than other units in the series, but it weighs more at 27.1 lbs. The HP 1600cn inkjet printer is network ready and can be configured within a network via Ethernet connection. Single-computer users can use the parallel port. The HP Deskjet 1600cn also prints in colour and uses 4 separate tanks to accommodate the basic CMYK ink quartet.

While not as fast as more advanced devices, the HP Deskjet 1600cn can print black and white pages at a rate of 9 ppm. Colour pages come out at an average of 4 ppm. Maximum resolution reaches 600x600 dpi, which is quite impressive for a device its age. The machine can also handle a wide range of media types, from plain to glossy paper, transparencies, labels and envelopes, and even iron-on transfers. The maximum media size that the HP Deskjet 1600cn can handle is up to 8.25x11.7 inches.

The HP Deskjet 1600cn does text prints very well, but can be sluggish when it comes to colour prints (4 ppm). Print quality is good, but not excellent (especially when dealing with graphics and photographs). Network connectivity is only available via wired Ethernet.
