HP Deskjet 6520 Printer Review

Expert review of the HP Deskjet 6520 printer

Our Verdict:

Fast, affordable, and efficient, the HP Deskjet 6520 is easily one of the best inkjet printers from Hewlett Packard. It looks a bit outdated and may be too bulky for most modern home and office settings, but it is still one of the most reliable machines around.

Design

The HP Deskjet 6520 is 17.6 inches wide, 9.3 inches in diameter, and 5.8 inches tall. The colour scheme is simple and understated, combining dark grey and standard grey tones. It is a little heavy at 12.6 lbs. Duplex printing is optional and borderless printing is easily set-up. The standard RAM is 16MB.

Advantages

Boasting a print speed of 28 ppm in 'normal' colour mode and 27 ppm at 'best' mode, the HP Deskjet 6520 is surprisingly fast, making it an excellent choice if you want a fast photo printer that produces excellent-quality images. The images are vivid at 4800x1200 dpi (colour) and 1200x1200 dpi (monochrome). The optional duplex printing function is useful if you want to save on paper.

Disadvantages

This HP printer is one of the older models, so it is not compatible with the latest Apple and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Warranty is limited to only a year. The connectivity technology still uses the 4-pin USB Type B and the 1.0xDirect Print Port connections, which limits the use and efficiency of the HP Deskjet 6520. Most printers print slower in colour, but this one is rather fast. Interestingly, monochrome printing is slow at 5.7 ppm in 'normal' mode, and much slower at 2.0 ppm in 'best mode.
