Our Verdict:
star
star-filled

The HP Deskjet 870CXI is a personal inkjet printer designed for home users that need a budget-friendly and simple device for presentable documents and creative projects. The Hewlett Packard Deskjet 870CXI is compatible with older Windows, Mac, and MS DOS operating systems, but its overall specifications are very outdated for today's users.

Design

This simple device connects to a PC via serial IEEE 8-in mini DIN, parallel 36-pin centronics, and a serial RS-422 connection. The media automatically feeds paper from the 150-sheet capacity tray in front. The media path is curved, so paper jam might occur and could be difficult to fix. The HP Deskjet 870CXI inkjet printer is 8.9 inches tall, 15.6 inches deep, and 17.5 inches wide.

Advantages

The Deskjet 870CXI is impressive when printing mixed colour graphics and text in best mode. Black text looks clean and sharp. The maximum media size that the HP Deskjet 870CXI inkjet printer can handle is 8.5x14 inches – it can be in the form of glossy, coated, or plain paper and transparencies. Users can also share the HP 870CXI colour inkjet printer in a small group with the built-in network-friendly interface.

Disadvantages

The major flaw of the HP Deskjet 870CXI is the outdated technology, which affects speed and overall performance. Because of that, networking features may not be as perfect as Ethernet-ready printers, and speeds are sub-par (up to 7ppm only) when compared to faster devices by the same company. Also, the HP Deskjet 870CXI printer is quite heavy, weighing almost 7kg.
