The HP Deskjet F4172 is a multi-function device that can print documents and photos, scan images, and copy documents in decent but not necessarily competitive speeds, especially when compared with the new surge of more advanced MFPs in the market. It is best suited for small offices as well as for home use, and is compatible with most operating systems, especially Windows and Mac. The HP Deskjet F4172 does its job well, although it may not be suitable in more demanding situations where speed is an important factor.
Design
The HP Deskjet F4172 is basically the same machine as the earlier F4100 models. It connects via USB and has the paper tray up in the front. It also uses a flatbed scanner, and requires 2 ink tanks - one for colour printing, and the other for black and white. A third ink can be used in place of the black, for photographic printing.
Advantages
The HP Deskjet F4172 boasts decent printing and copying speeds. It produces up to 20 monochrome pages (draft mode) in just a minute, and up to 14 colour prints in the same time frame. Photos come out as fast as 50 seconds (4x6 inches). The printer also accepts different kinds of media.
Disadvantages
The HP Deskjet F4172 uses one tri-colour cartridge, making it expensive to maintain. It also does not feature an automatic document feeder for the copier, and does not support networking and wireless connectivity.
