Users seeking an affordable multifunction printer will appreciate the HP PSC 1219 because of its low initial cost and its TWAIN-compliant scanner and digital copier. Though it is aimed at small offices and personal users looking for a more efficient all-in-one machine, it is quite limited in terms of capabilities and still has problems with speed.
Design
This rectangular box-type multifunction printer weighs 4.9 Kg and it can fit most desktops or computer tables because it is only 10.2 inches in diameter and 16.76 inches wide. The HP CIS scanner is integrated into the HP PSC 1219. Its standard resolution is 600 dpi, but can be enhanced to 19200 dpi. The HP PSC 1219 has a digital copier which can be used as a standalone device for printing up to 9 copies from the original.
Advantages
The HP PSC 1219 is a power-saving device with a maximum energy consumption of 5 Watts and a scanner that automatically switches to 'power save' mode when idle. Users do not need to warm-up the scanner before use, thereby saving time. This printer is also integrated with the HP PhotoREt III colour layering technology for better output.
Disadvantages
Some of the major flaws of this multifunction device include compatibility issues with Windows Vista and Windows 7, and system hang-ups. The one year warranty that comes with the HP PSC 1219 is limited, and support becomes even harder to find once it expires. Ink consumption is high, and the duty cycle is only 1,000, which is quite low for something being marketed as an 'office printer.' The HP PSC 1219 only has 8MB of RAM, which is insufficient and causes it to constantly lag or slow down. Speed is still sub par when compared to other inkjet printers.
