HP PSC 1513 Printer Review
Expert review of the HP PSC 1513 printer
An all-in-one that can act as a standalone scanner, printer, and copier, the HP PSC 1513 is a reliable basic MFP. It is a compact device with an above-average monthly duty cycle of 5,000 impressions. The HP PSC 1513 is suitable for small businesses looking for a reliable MFP. However, it certainly isn't the fastest in the market.
Design
The HP PSC 1513 features a rear USB port for connecting to a computer and also supports PC-less printing via the PictBridge port. The fold up paper tray is extendible up to 11 inches, along with a flat bed scanner that doubles as a digital copier. The HP PSC 1513 uses the same drop-on-demand inkjet technology as its line-mates and requires 2 ink cartridges (one black and another tri-colour) to print.
Advantages
The main advantage of the HP PSC 1513, and practically the entire PSC 1500 series is PC-less operation. Copy quality can be adjusted in three levels, and a designated button is available for indicating the number of copies to be made. Pictures can be printed direct from a camera via the PictBridge port, although the printer can only recognize JPEG and DPOF formats.
Disadvantages
The HP PSC 1513 can only print at a rate of 20ppm (black) and 18ppm (coloured) when using fast draft modes. Users will have to wait even longer for high quality prints to come out. Without an automatic document feeder, it can be a hassle scanning documents larger than A4.
