The HP PSC 1513s uses HP 338 ink cartridges. HP 338 ink comes in black; the black cartridge prints 480 pages.
The HP PSC 1513s can be used with Mac or Windows operating systems, and is a good standalone device that can scan, print, and copy without a computer. 'Draft' mode rates reach up to 20ppm in monochrome and 15ppm in colour. The HP PSC 1513s can render resolutions of up to 1200x1200 for black and whites, and up to 4800x1200 for colour prints. The unit connects to a computer via USB and does not have networking capabilities.
The HP PSC 1513s's is a basic box-type device featuring a flat bed scanner/digital copier on the top panel, next to the control panel, with individual buttons for adjusting copy, print, and scan options. It also features a PictBridge port and power button, along with a fold-up paper tray. The HP PSC 1513s is sleek and clean, with only 2 other connection ports on the rear (for USB and mains power).
Multifunctionality is one of the selling points of the HP PSC 1513s. Its ability to be used as a stand-alone device is a major step up from other MFPs that only work when connected to a computer. It boasts decent print speeds, especially when using 'fast draft' and 'fast normal' modes. Printing in high resolution may take longer, though. Maximum resolution for full colour prints reaches up to 4800x1200dpi.
Lack of networking capabilities is a major turnoff for the HP PSC 1513s, although the PictBridge port offers a good compromise. Home users may not be able to maximize the 5000 impressions per month capacity.
