A true all-in-one, HP's Photosmart 2610 integrates various office-essential functions in one machine. It allows printing, scanning, copying and faxing, as well as PC-less operation, thanks to its Pictbridge compatibility and memory card support. The Photosmart 2610 still uses HP's three-colour cartridge, which may drive running cost high depending on usage. Installation takes time.

Design

The Photosmart 2610 shied away from the typical box-type design of other Photosmart models, but it still has the flatbed scanner installed on top. Controls are to the right, with a small display for accessing main functions. Down the front right are the memory card slots for 11 different formats, including xD and MicroDrive cards. The rear of the printer is occupied by the USB2.0 socket for PC connection, along with twin connectors for the fax modem and phone handset. The Photosmart 2610 also allows Ethernet configuration, so it can be used as a network printer.

Advantages

Boasting sophisticated features, Photosmart 2610 is a huge improvement from other Photosmart models before it. It allows outstanding photo reproduction and boasts decent print speeds of up to 7ppm for normal prints (11.6ppm in draft mode). Text prints and copies are crisp, and scanned images have excellent close-to-original quality.

Disadvantages

The Photosmart 2610 is a decent multifunction with a pretty low running cost. It's not as easy to install and set up as earlier models, though.
