The HP Photosmart C3193 is an easy to use photo-quality printer that is ideal for both home and individual office use. Compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems, the unit can be easily connected. It is suitable for limited amounts of printing, and while it makes an acceptable printer for a home or an individual office, a higher-quality photo printer is advisable for the photo enthusiast.

Design

This unit features a letter-size flatbed scanner and copier suitable for basic needs, and has ports on the front to be used with a variety of types of memory cards and sticks. However, it is recommended that only memory cards of up to 1GB be used. The dimensions of the unit are 16.2 x 43.4 x 38.1cm and it weighs 7.66kg, making it relatively easy to manoeuvre.

Advantages

It can print around 30 pages per minute in mono, with 24 pages per minute in colour in fast draft mode. Maximum print resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi in mono and 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi in colour, which reduces print speed to 0.4 pages per minute in both mono and colour. The maximum duty cycle for this printer is 3,000 pages which should be more than adequate for most homes and individual offices. The size of the printer means that it will fit on most desks.

Disadvantages

The printer has USB connectivity, but does not support either Wi-Fi or networking, which some users might find less than convenient. The lack of an auto-document feeder will also limit the usefulness of the scanner and copier function for this device. Maximum paper size for this printer is legal size, which again may not be adequate for some users. The unit does not support secure digital high capacity (SDHC) cards.
